Jost Hering, head of architects of ECE Projektmanagement G.m.b.H. & Co.KG (responsible for the construction of the Altmarkt-Galerie Dresden): Architecture is more than you can see

ARE YOU AN ARCHITECT? Yes.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM? I was born in a small place in the Taunus, I grew up in Wiesbaden, I have been studying at the university of - not so typical nowadays - Darmstadt. Neither I have been in America for one year nor I have been at Crete for making experiences in pottery. Spring `76 diploma. Than I changed often my place to stay and I was busy with the architecture of co-operative stores. Since autumn 1989 I have been builidng up the sector of Interior Architecture at ECE. Later my colleagues and me, we took over the management of the sector Architecture.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU? You have luck, if your profession is the hobby.
I like to develope something good of a special budget (it must not be a high one) and in a given time.
WHAT ABOUT DRESDEN? To say again, that Dresdenīs town centre is beautiful would mean to carry owls to Athens. And a town handling so selfconfident with the investors is very likable.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK? It is a wide-spread prejudice that architecture is to make some crazy sketches with a soft pencil and the rest is going by itself. Architecture is more than you can see.
FUTURE? My wife means, it doesnīt matter how old I will be, every time I will make architecture.
WHICH QUESTION YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE ASKED? Iīm to much a realist.
